"Ethnographic parasites, in the words of George Marcus, are spaces that facilitate alternative ways to speak and think with “moderately empowered people” who are “deeply complicit with and implicated in powerful institutional processes. . . . The
para-site is a space of excess or surplus in a subject’s actions but is never fully controllable by him or her. [It is] a site of alternativity in which anything, or at least something different, could happen.”70 The Multispecies Salon involved the unfolding of encounters. The exhibit was an initial attempt to get at something we did not already know rather than a reorganizing of existing knowledge."
